Educational support

Additional Services

At L’École Internationale des Apprenants, the success of every student is at the heart of our mission. In line with the requirements of the Quebec Ministry of Education and the IB, we implement inclusive practices adapted to meet the variability of learners. We firmly believe that an inclusive educational environment enables every student to participate fully in learning and in the life of the school.

Our inclusive approach

Our inclusive education policy is based on official documents from the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec and the IB, aimed at widening access to learning for all, while removing barriers to learning. According to the IB, “inclusion is a continuous process that aims to broaden access to learning and increase the involvement of all students”. Inclusion is based on active participation and equitable access to learning, taking into account the specific strengths and needs of each student.

Available services

We offer a range of complementary services to support students with special needs and promote their academic success:

  • Orthopedagogy
  • Language support (if required)
  • Special education

These services are activated on the basis of student results, early screening and classroom observations, enabling us to continually adapt our teaching approach.

Intervention model

Our support model is based on three levels of intervention, designed to respond to students’ needs in a progressive and targeted way:

  1. First-level intervention (universal)
Accessible to all students, this intervention aims to meet the general needs of the class, with differentiated teaching and varied pedagogical strategies adapted to the diversity of the students.
  2. Second-tier intervention (selective)
This level targets students with specific vulnerabilities, offering early, targeted interventions to prevent the onset of more serious problems. Students can benefit from additional small-group sessions with specialists.
  3. Third-level intervention (intensive)
Students who remain in difficulty despite previous interventions receive intensive support, with explicit teaching strategies adapted to their specific needs.

IB principles to support learning

The IB approach guides our teaching practice, with four key principles that promote inclusion and the holistic development of students:

  • Affirming identity and building self-esteem: Creating an environment that values diversity and fosters respect for cultural perspectives.
  • Building on prior knowledge: Draw on students’ past experiences to build new learning.
  • Scaffolding: Offer temporary support to help students accomplish more complex tasks and develop their independence.
  • Expanding the field of knowledge: Encourage students to explore increasingly complex texts and concepts, while maintaining high expectations.

Philosophy and practice

Our educational philosophy is based on equity, consistency and transparency, and we aim to offer equitable access to all our students. We favor a differentiated approach, taking into account the specific needs of each student. We ensure that all students, regardless of their strengths and difficulties, receive appropriate support to succeed in a dynamic and inclusive school environment.

Monitoring and assessment

Interventions are regularly evaluated to ensure their effectiveness and to adjust our practices according to each student’s progress. We implement follow-up programs tailored to identified needs, and collaborate with external professionals when necessary, to ensure comprehensive, personalized support.

As such, the International School for Learners is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment, promoting access to quality learning for all.
